skype name: danmaninjapan
My parents run a
B&B establishment
in the KwaZulu-Natal
midlands, South Africa.
This site links you to a range of opportunities offered by me, Dan B (MSc) in South Africa. I have designed this site for people interested in the things that interest me.
Presently, this site includes eco-tourism in South Africa as we move closer towards the Soccer World Cup in 2010. It also offers people the opportunity to purchase solar power supplies. I see solar power and eco-tourism as two economic opportunities that have a moral basis. The name of this site, Active Rights, is about actively pursuing human rights through economic opportunities.

For example, in this day and age I believe electricity should be a human right. We have the technology, just like clean water and housing, but millions of people live without this necessity. As a result, I propose solar power as a technology that can be used in attaining this right.

Eco-tourism is an opportunity that local people should also be able to benefit from. Eco-tourism can supply necessary income and livelihoods for thousands of families in developing countries. People have a right to this livelihood.
A llittle bit about me
I went to the University of KwaZulu-Natal and have studied ecological science, rural development and land rights. I have worked for NGOs in South Africa as a human rights researcher and a development worker. I am temporarily in Japan on a working exchange programme.

I have suppliers in India. The quality of their products is high and prices are competitive. I supply basic solar systems from 5000ZAR. This includes a 40W panel, an inverter, a controller and a battery. This little system will be able to power a laptop/desktop computer/television/radio/external recharger/small appliances and electrical lighting. The size of the system also makes it easy to transport.
I can also supply higher wattage panels up to 205W and associated inverters for individuals, families and businesses wanting additional power.

Eco-tourism in South Africa is a growing industry. The great thing about eco-tourism is that it is an industry that is environmentally and socio-economically beneficial. This is why I support it. I want to assist local people exercise their right to a livelihood by coordinating tourists to their doorstep.
South Africa has a wide variety of sites of interest to tourists and especially eco-tourists. Having lived in South Africa my whole life I know and love many areas of natural beauty. I enjoy organising trips to these areas, mostly in KwaZulu-Natal.
My favourites include coastal Mkambati Nature Reserve in the former Transkei, the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho, the Southern Drakensberg and Zululand.

If you are thinking of visiting South Africa feel free to contact me for advice. I can also organise your trip, or part thereof, and take you on a tour to unique destinations that will stimulate your soul.
